Q: Hello Brother, You said [in your article]..."If it is the greatest of all tribulations then a separate Armageddon can not be possible, can it? When Jesus said, “unless those days were cut short, no flesh would be saved; but on account of the chosen ones those days will be cut short,” we might ask: Who survives the Great Tribulation? Does Jehovah cut short the days of the tribulation in order to preserve the nations so that he can destroy them after this, at a separate war of Armageddon? If there were a separate battle of Armageddon in which all the nations would be destroyed, would that not make it greater than the Great Tribulation?"

I think that the Great Tribulation is when we personally are going to go through something like has never occurred or never will, this I think has to do with all inhabitants of the earth by Satan's Political regime, which Jehovah uses to bring them to an end.

All Gods' people are suffering and it appears that there is no escape, Armageddon could be the last phase or climax of the GT, as Jehovah steps in and wipes out the Nations just in time as no flesh would be saved, it is a last minute save as this is the biggest test on our relationship and trust in Jehovah, (only those that survive till the end will be saved, I think that may apply to the end of the GT before Jehovah destroys the governments, as no flesh would be saved.)

BTG
[Babylon the Great], Jehovah uses the nations or political powers to destroy her lover, as Rev says, then turns their attention to Jehovah's people. So the end of the GT is Armageddon where Jehovah and Christ directly get involved, for their people.

A: I have received numerous e-mails regarding my article on the Great Tribulation, many of them in disagreement with what I have written. Not a few have also included their own interpretation. It's interesting to see how many different views there are on only one subject. Regarding the Great Tribulation Jesus said:

"For then there will be great tribulation (affliction, distress, and oppression) such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now—no, and never will be [again]. And if those days had not been shortened, no human being would endure and survive, but for the sake of the elect (God's chosen ones) those days will be shortened." Matthew 24:21,22; Amplified Bible.

Or, according to the Contemporary English Version:
"This will be the worst time of suffering since the beginning of the world, and nothing this terrible will ever happen again. If God doesn't make the time shorter, no one will be left alive. But because of God's chosen ones, he will make the time shorter."

For Jesus' words to have any meaning it is clear that the Great Tribulation (the worst time ever of "affliction, distress, and oppression") comes upon the whole world and not just God's people, and he assures us that such a time of suffering on a world-wide scale will never happen again. Note, too, that Jesus makes a distinction between "no human being" would endure and survive, and God's chosen ones. Also, if Armageddon is separate and distinct from the Great Tribulation, and were to follow it, then, according to Jesus' words, can it be as terrible as the Great Tribulation?

It will be a time of such great suffering, or tribulation, so complete and terrible that Jehovah will not allow its duration to run its full course, otherwise even his own people would not survive it. See how the prophet Zephaniah describes it:

15 "That day is a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of destruction and desolation, a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and blackness,
17 I will bring distress on mankind, and they will walk like the blind because they have sinned against the LORD.
Their blood will be poured out like dust and their flesh like dung.
18 Their silver and their gold will not be able to rescue them on the day of the LORD's wrath.
The whole earth will be consumed by the fire of His jealousy. For He will make a complete, yes, a horrifying end of all the inhabitants of the earth." ―
Zephaniah 1:15-18; Holman Christian Standard Bible.

Has anything this great of a tribulation, and on such a large scale, ever happened before in all human history? (In its scale and totality of destruction it will be greater than the deluge of Noah's day, for it will include, in the final stage, the removal of Satan and his rebel angels. Rev. 19:19-20:1-3) Is it possible for such a distress to ever happen again, to such a large extent? Although it will mean "the end of all the inhabitants of the earth," we are assured that "a great crowd" of God's faithful worshippers will survive this greatest of all tribulations because Jehovah will have cut short the days on their behalf. (Rev. 7:9,14)

However, before this Great Tribulation breaks forth and "the four winds of the earth" are released with their destructive powers, Jehovah's people will already have suffered affliction to a great extent. This is during the "time of the end," or "in the last days," that leads up to Christ's return. (Rev. 7:1-3; Dan. 12:4; 2 Tim. 3:1-7) As Jesus forewarned:

"9 Then they will hand you over to suffer affliction and tribulation and put you to death, and you will be hated by all nations for My name's sake.
10 And then many will be offended and repelled and will begin to distrust and desert [Him Whom they ought to trust and obey] and will stumble and fall away and betray one another and pursue one another with hatred.
11 And many false prophets will rise up and deceive and lead many into error.
12 And the love of the great body of people will grow cold because of the multiplied lawlessness and iniquity,
13 But he who endures to the end will be saved."
(Matthew 24:9-13; Amplified Bible)

For those who profess to worship Jehovah this will be a time to be sifted. (Luke 22:31) What makes this suffering and tribulation, and being put "to death," so much worse is the fact that much of this persecution comes from members within God's own household. (Matt. 12:46-50; 2 Cor. 11:26; Gal. 2:4; 3 John 9,10) Therefore, we can expect persecution within the congregations simply for obeying God's command not to put our "trust in nobles, nor in the son of earthling man, to whom no salvation belongs." (Psalms 146:3) Our loyalty to Jehovah is being put to the test when the Leaders (or nobles) among us insist that putting our trust in them is the same as trusting God. Jehovah has good reason for thus warning us. He sees and knows the "secret things of darkness" committed by those whom we trust, things that will shock when his time comes to bring their acts to light. (1 Cor. 4:5; 1 Tim. 5:24,25)

"When people realize it is the living God you are presenting and not some idol that makes them feel good, they are going to turn on you, even people in your own family. There is a great irony here: proclaiming so much love, experiencing so much hate! But don't quit. Don't cave in. It is all well worth it in the end. It is not success you are after in such times but survival. Be survivors! Before you've run out of options, the Son of Man will have arrived.
"Don't be intimidated. Eventually everything is going to be out in the open, and everyone will know how things really are."
(Matthew 10:16-26; The Message)

Please note that the time of distress, trouble, or suffering (tribulation) that God's people experience happens before the Great Tribulation, before "the Son of Man will have arrived." That is why Paul wrote:

"This takes into account that it is righteous on God’s part to repay tribulation to those who make tribulation for YOU, but, to YOU who suffer tribulation, relief along with us at the revelation of the Lord Jesus from heaven with his powerful angels in a flaming fire, as he brings vengeance upon those who do not know God and those who do not obey the good news about our Lord Jesus. These very ones will undergo the judicial punishment of everlasting destruction from before the Lord and from the glory of his strength, at the time he comes to be glorified in connection with his holy ones and to be regarded in that day with wonder in connection with all those who exercised faith, because the witness we gave met with faith among YOU." 2 Thess. 1:6-10.

The tribulation suffered by Jehovah's people in these last days is not "
the worst time of suffering since the beginning of the world," albeit it is a time of great distress for them. They have need of endurance. But this particular period of suffering will soon end. By then the Son of man will have sent forth "his angels to collect out from his kingdom all things that cause stumbling and persons who are doing lawlessness." It will also be the time to identify Jehovah's loyal servants, the "righteous ones" who "will shine as brightly as the sun in the kingdom of their Father." (Matt. 13:40-43; 1 Peter 4:18,19) It is immediately after the tribulation of "those days," the tribulation experienced by Christ's true disciples, and the days leading up to his return, (not the Great Tribulation), that "the sign of the Son of man will appear in heaven, and all the tribes of the earth will beat themselves in lamentation." (Matt. 24:29-31, 32,33)

Armageddon is Jehovah's war and his day when he will act against this entire world that "is under the power of the devil." (Rev. 16:14,16; 1 John 5:19; CEV) This is his means by which he will destroy every trace of all that over which Satan has ruled for the past six thousand years. It will bring peace and blessings to all loyal worshippers of Jehovah and they will inherit the earth. (Matt. 5:5; 6:10) Although there have been other times of tribulation, there is only one "great tribulation," and it is descriptive of what Armageddon is about, "the worst time of suffering since the beginning of the world, and nothing this terrible will ever happen again."

For a full and correct understanding of all things we need to wait for the time for these things to be fulfilled. What we really need to understand correctly, though, at this time, are the things we must act upon, such as remaining loyal to Jehovah, rendering him sacred service within his temple arrangement, (which many who have stumbled have rejected) and enduring to the end. (1 Cor. 3:16,17; Eph. 2:19-22; 1 Peter 2:5; Rev. 7:15) Our faith and obedience to our God is being severely tested. Being "survivors" is what really counts.
