50  Και ήρθε κάποιος άντρας ονόματι Ιωσήφ, ο οποίος ήταν μέλος του Συμβουλίου, άντρας αγαθός και δίκαιος — 51  αυτός δεν είχε ψηφίσει υπέρ του σχεδίου και της ενέργειάς τους —και ο οποίος ήταν από την Αριμαθαία, μια πόλη Ιουδαίων, και περίμενε τη βασιλεία του Θεού·  52  αυτός πήγε στον Πιλάτο και ζήτησε το σώμα του Ιησού.  53  Και το κατέβασε  και το τύλιξε σε εκλεκτό λινό ύφασμα, και τον έβαλε σε μνήμα  λαξευμένο στο βράχο, στο οποίο δεν είχε τοποθετηθεί ακόμη κανείς.  54  Ήταν η ημέρα της Προετοιμασίας,  και πλησίαζε το λυκόφως του σαββάτου.  55  Και οι γυναίκες που είχαν έρθει μαζί του από τη Γαλιλαία ακολούθησαν και έριξαν μια ματιά στο μνημείο  και στο πώς τέθηκε το σώμα του·  56  και γύρισαν πίσω να ετοιμάσουν μυρωδικά και αρωματικά λάδια.  Αλλά, φυσικά, το σάββατο  αναπαύτηκαν σύμφωνα με την εντολή.

24  Ωστόσο, την πρώτη ημέρα της εβδομάδας, πήγαν πολύ νωρίς στο μνήμα, φέρνοντας τα μυρωδικά που είχαν ετοιμάσει.  2  Αλλά βρήκαν την πέτρα κυλισμένη από το μνημείο,  3  και όταν μπήκαν δεν βρήκαν το σώμα του Κυρίου Ιησού.  4  Ενώ βρίσκονταν σε αμηχανία σχετικά με αυτό, δύο άντρες με αστραφτερά ρούχα στάθηκαν δίπλα τους.  5  Καθώς αυτές φοβήθηκαν και είχαν τα πρόσωπά τους στραμμένα στο έδαφος, εκείνοι τους είπαν: «Γιατί αναζητάτε τον Ζωντανό ανάμεσα στους νεκρούς; 6  [[Δεν είναι εδώ, αλλά έχει εγερθεί.]]  Θυμηθείτε πώς σας μίλησε ενώ ήταν ακόμη στη Γαλιλαία,  7  λέγοντας ότι ο Γιος του ανθρώπου πρέπει να παραδοθεί στα χέρια αμαρτωλών ανθρώπων και να κρεμαστεί στο ξύλο και την τρίτη ημέρα να αναστηθεί».  8  Θυμήθηκαν, λοιπόν, τα λόγια του  9  και επέστρεψαν από το μνημείο και τα ανέφεραν όλα αυτά στους έντεκα και σε όλους τους υπόλοιπους.  10  Αυτές ήταν η Μαγδαληνή Μαρία και η Ιωάννα  και η Μαρία, η μητέρα του Ιακώβου. Και οι υπόλοιπες γυναίκες  που ήταν μαζί τους έλεγαν στους αποστόλους αυτά τα πράγματα. 11  Ωστόσο, τα λόγια αυτά τους φάνηκαν ανοησίες και δεν τις πίστευαν.  

   12  [[Ο Πέτρος, όμως, σηκώθηκε και έτρεξε στο μνημείο και σκύβοντας μέσα είδε μόνο τους επιδέσμους. Έφυγε, λοιπόν, ενώ μέσα του αναρωτιόταν τι είχε συμβεί.]]

   13  Αλλά εκείνη την ημέρα, δύο από αυτούς ταξίδευαν προς ένα χωριό που απείχε έντεκα περίπου χιλιόμετρα από την Ιερουσαλήμ και ονομαζόταν Εμμαούς, 14  και συνομιλούσαν μεταξύ τους για όλα αυτά  που είχαν συμβεί.

   15  Καθώς, λοιπόν, συνομιλούσαν και συζητούσαν, ο ίδιος ο Ιησούς πλησίασε  και άρχισε να περπατάει μαζί τους· 16  αλλά τα μάτια τους εμποδίζονταν, ώστε να μην τον αναγνωρίσουν.  17  Αυτός τους είπε: «Ποια είναι αυτά τα ζητήματα που συζητάτε μεταξύ σας καθώς περπατάτε;» Και εκείνοι στάθηκαν σκυθρωποί. 18  Απαντώντας αυτός που ονομαζόταν Κλεόπας τού είπε: «Μόνος σου παροικείς εσύ στην Ιερουσαλήμ και δεν ξέρεις όσα συνέβησαν σε αυτήν τούτες τις ημέρες;» 19  Και εκείνος τους είπε: «Ποια;» Αυτοί του είπαν: «Τα σχετικά με τον Ιησού τον Ναζωραίο,  ο οποίος έγινε προφήτης  δυνατός σε έργο και λόγο ενώπιον του Θεού και όλου του λαού· 20  και πώς οι πρωθιερείς και οι άρχοντές μας τον παρέδωσαν στην ποινή του θανάτου και τον κρέμασαν στο ξύλο.  21  Εμείς, όμως, ελπίζαμε ότι αυτός ήταν που έμελλε να απελευθερώσει τον Ισραήλ·  ναι, και εκτός από όλα αυτά, αυτή είναι η τρίτη ημέρα αφότου συνέβησαν αυτά τα πράγματα. 22  Επιπρόσθετα, και ορισμένες γυναίκες  από ανάμεσά μας μάς άφησαν κατάπληκτους, επειδή πήγαν νωρίς στο μνημείο 23  αλλά δεν βρήκαν το σώμα του, και ήρθαν λέγοντας ότι είχαν δει και ένα υπερφυσικό θέαμα αγγέλων, οι οποίοι είπαν ότι αυτός είναι ζωντανός. 24  Μάλιστα, μερικοί από εκείνους που είναι μαζί μας πήγαν στο μνημείο·  και το βρήκαν ακριβώς όπως είχαν πει οι γυναίκες, αλλά αυτόν δεν τον είδαν».
 

50 And, look! a man named Joseph, who was a member of the Council, a good and righteous man— 51 this [man] had not voted in support of their design and action—he was from Arimathea, a city of the Judeans, and was waiting for the kingdom of God; 52 this man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. 53 And he took it down and wrapped it up in fine linen, and he laid him in a tomb carved in the rock, in which no man had yet lain. 54 Now it was the day of Preparation, and the evening light of the sabbath was approaching. 55 But the women, who had come with him out of Galilee, followed along and took a look at the memorial tomb and how his body was laid; 56 and they went back to prepare spices and perfumed oils. But, of course, they rested on the sabbath according to the commandment.

24 On the first day of the week, however, they went very early to the tomb, bearing the spices they had prepared. 2 But they found the stone rolled away from the memorial tomb, 3 and when they entered they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4 While they were in perplexity over this, look! two men in flashing clothing stood by them. 5 As the [women] became frightened and kept their faces turned to the ground, the [men] said to them: “Why are YOU looking for the living One among the dead? 6 [[He is not here, but has been raised up.]] Recall how he spoke to YOU while he was yet in Galilee, 7 saying that the Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be impaled and yet on the third day rise.” 8 So they called his sayings to mind, 9 and they returned from the memorial tomb and reported all these things to the eleven and to all the rest. 10 They were the Magdalene Mary, and Joanna, and Mary the [mother] of James. Also, the rest of the women with them were telling the apostles these things. 11 However, these sayings appeared as nonsense to them and they would not believe the [women].

12 [[But Peter rose and ran to the memorial tomb, and, stooping forward, he beheld the bandages alone. So he went off, wondering within himself at what had occurred.]]

13 But, look! on that very day two of them were journeying to a village about seven miles distant from Jerusalem [and] named Emmaus, 14 and they were conversing with each other over all these things that had come about.

15 Now as they were conversing and discussing, Jesus himself approached and began walking with them; 16 but their eyes were kept from recognizing him. 17 He said to them: “What are these matters that YOU are debating between yourselves as YOU walk along?” And they stood still with sad faces. 18 In answer the one named Cleopas said to him: “Are you dwelling as an alien by yourself in Jerusalem and so do not know the things that have occurred in her in these days?” 19 And he said to them: “What things?” They said to him: “The things concerning Jesus the Nazarene, who became a prophet powerful in work and word before God and all the people; 20 and how our chief priests and rulers handed him over to the sentence of death and impaled him. 21 But we were hoping that this [man] was the one destined to deliver Israel; yes, and besides all these things, this makes the third day since these things occurred. 22 Moreover, certain women from among us also astonished us, because they had been early to the memorial tomb 23 but did not find his body and they came saying they had also seen a supernatural sight of angels, who said he is alive. 24 Further, some of those with us went off to the memorial tomb; and they found it so, just as the women had said, but they did not see him.”
