     Αποκάλυψη 17:1 — 17:14

17  Και ήρθε ένας από τους εφτά αγγέλους που είχαν τις εφτά κούπες  και μίλησε μαζί μου, λέγοντας: «Έλα, θα σου δείξω την κρίση εναντίον της μεγάλης πόρνης  που κάθεται πάνω σε πολλά νερά,  2  με την οποία πόρνευσαν οι βασιλιάδες της γης,  ενώ εκείνοι που κατοικούν στη γη μέθυσαν από το κρασί της πορνείας της».  

   3  Και με μετέφερε μέσω της δύναμης του πνεύματος  σε μια έρημο. Και είδα μια γυναίκα να κάθεται πάνω σε ένα κατακόκκινο θηρίο  που ήταν γεμάτο βλάσφημα ονόματα  και που είχε εφτά κεφάλια  και δέκα κέρατα.  4  Και η γυναίκα είχε πορφυρή  και κατακόκκινη  στολή, και ήταν καλλωπισμένη με χρυσάφι και πολύτιμες πέτρες και μαργαριτάρια  και είχε στο χέρι της ένα χρυσό ποτήρι  που ήταν γεμάτο με αηδιαστικά πράγματα  και με τα ακάθαρτα πράγματα της πορνείας της.  5  Και στο μέτωπό της ήταν γραμμένο ένα όνομα, ένα μυστήριο:  «Βαβυλώνα η Μεγάλη, η μητέρα των πορνών  και των αηδιαστικών πραγμάτων της γης».  6  Και είδα ότι η γυναίκα ήταν μεθυσμένη από το αίμα  των αγίων και από το αίμα των μαρτύρων του Ιησού.  

   Όταν, λοιπόν, την είδα θαύμασα με μεγάλο θαυμασμό.  7  Και ο άγγελος μου είπε: «Γιατί θαύμασες; Εγώ θα σου πω το μυστήριο της γυναίκας  και του θηρίου που τη βαστάζει και που έχει τα εφτά κεφάλια και τα δέκα κέρατα:  8  Το θηρίο που είδες ήταν,  αλλά δεν είναι, και εντούτοις πρόκειται να ανεβεί από την άβυσσο,  και θα πάει στην καταστροφή. Και όταν δουν ότι το θηρίο ήταν, αλλά δεν είναι, και εντούτοις θα είναι παρόν, εκείνοι που κατοικούν στη γη θα νιώσουν θαυμασμό, αλλά τα ονόματά τους δεν έχουν γραφτεί στο ρόλο της ζωής  από τη θεμελίωση του κόσμου.  

   9  »Εδώ είναι που υπεισέρχεται η νοημοσύνη που έχει σοφία:  Τα εφτά κεφάλια  σημαίνουν εφτά βουνά,  πάνω στα οποία κάθεται η γυναίκα. 10  Και υπάρχουν εφτά βασιλιάδες: οι πέντε έπεσαν,  ο ένας είναι,  ο άλλος δεν έχει έρθει ακόμη,  αλλά όταν έρθει πρέπει να μείνει για σύντομο χρονικό διάστημα.  11  Και το θηρίο που ήταν αλλά δεν είναι,  είναι και αυτό όγδοος βασιλιάς, αλλά προέρχεται από τους εφτά, και πηγαίνει στην καταστροφή.

   12  »Και τα δέκα κέρατα που είδες σημαίνουν δέκα βασιλιάδες,  οι οποίοι δεν έχουν λάβει ακόμη βασιλεία, αλλά λαβαίνουν εξουσία ως βασιλιάδες μία ώρα μαζί με το θηρίο. 13  Αυτοί έχουν μία σκέψη, και γι’ αυτό δίνουν τη δύναμη και την εξουσία τους στο θηρίο.  14  Αυτοί θα πολεμήσουν με το Αρνί,  αλλά το Αρνί θα τους νικήσει,  επειδή είναι Κύριος κυρίων και Βασιλιάς βασιλιάδων.  Το ίδιο θα κάνουν και οι καλεσμένοι και εκλεγμένοι και πιστοί που είναι μαζί του».
 

17 And one of the seven angels that had the seven bowls came and spoke with me, saying: “Come, I will show you the judgment upon the great harlot who sits on many waters, 2 with whom the kings of the earth committed fornication, whereas those who inhabit the earth were made drunk with the wine of her fornication.”

3 And he carried me away in [the power of the] spirit into a wilderness. And I caught sight of a woman sitting upon a scarlet-colored wild beast that was full of blasphemous names and that had seven heads and ten horns. 4 And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet, and was adorned with gold and precious stone and pearls and had in her hand a golden cup that was full of disgusting things and the unclean things of her fornication. 5 And upon her forehead was written a name, a mystery: “Babylon the Great, the mother of the harlots and of the disgusting things of the earth.” 6 And I saw that the woman was drunk with the blood of the holy ones and with the blood of the witnesses of Jesus.

Well, on catching sight of her I wondered with great wonderment. 7 And so the angel said to me: “Why is it you wondered? I will tell you the mystery of the woman and of the wild beast that is carrying her and that has the seven heads and the ten horns: 8 The wild beast that you saw was, but is not, and yet is about to ascend out of the abyss, and it is to go off into destruction. And when they see how the wild beast was, but is not, and yet will be present, those who dwell on the earth will wonder admiringly, but their names have not been written upon the scroll of life from the founding of the world.

9 “Here is where the intelligence that has wisdom comes in: The seven heads mean seven mountains, where the woman sits on top. 10 And there are seven kings: five have fallen, one is, the other has not yet arrived, but when he does arrive he must remain a short while. 11 And the wild beast that was but is not, it is also itself an eighth [king], but springs from the seven, and it goes off into destruction.

12 “And the ten horns that you saw mean ten kings, who have not yet received a kingdom, but they do receive authority as kings one hour with the wild beast. 13 These have one thought, and so they give their power and authority to the wild beast. 14 These will battle with the Lamb, but, because he is Lord of lords and King of kings, the Lamb will conquer them. Also, those called and chosen and faithful with him [will do so].”
