Ματθαίος 24:29―24:51

   29 »Αμέσως μετά τη θλίψη εκείνων των ημερών, ο ήλιος θα σκοτεινιάσει και η σελήνη δεν θα δώσει το φως της και τα άστρα θα πέσουν από τον ουρανό και οι δυνάμεις των ουρανών θα κλονιστούν. 30 Και τότε θα εμφανιστεί στον ουρανό το σημείο του Γιου του ανθρώπου, και τότε όλες οι φυλές της γης θα χτυπούν τον εαυτό τους θρηνώντας και θα δουν τον Γιο του ανθρώπου να έρχεται πάνω στα σύννεφα του ουρανού με δύναμη και μεγάλη δόξα. 31 Και θα αποστείλει τους αγγέλους του με μεγάλο σάλπισμα, και αυτοί θα συγκεντρώσουν τους εκλεγμένους του από τους τέσσερις ανέμους, από τη μία άκρη των ουρανών ως την άλλη άκρη τους.

   32 »Μάθετε δε από τη συκιά σαν παραβολή το εξής σημείο: Μόλις το νέο κλαδί της γίνει τρυφερό και βγάλει φύλλα, ξέρετε ότι το καλοκαίρι πλησιάζει. 33 Παρόμοια και εσείς, όταν τα δείτε όλα αυτά, να ξέρετε ότι εκείνος πλησιάζει, είναι στην πόρτα. 34 Αληθινά σας λέω ότι αυτή η γενιά δεν πρόκειται να παρέλθει μέχρι να συμβούν όλα αυτά. 35 Ο ουρανός και η γη θα παρέλθουν, αλλά τα λόγια μου δεν πρόκειται να παρέλθουν.

   36 »Σχετικά με εκείνη την ημέρα και την ώρα κανείς δεν γνωρίζει, ούτε οι άγγελοι των ουρανών ούτε ο Γιος, παρά μόνο ο Πατέρας. 37 Διότι όπως ήταν οι ημέρες του Νώε, έτσι θα είναι η παρουσία του Γιου του ανθρώπου. 38 Διότι όπως ήταν οι άνθρωποι εκείνες τις ημέρες πριν από τον κατακλυσμό, που έτρωγαν και έπιναν, και οι άντρες παντρεύονταν και οι γυναίκες δίνονταν σε γάμο, μέχρι την ημέρα που ο Νώε μπήκε στην κιβωτό, 39 και δεν έδωσαν προσοχή μέχρι που ήρθε ο κατακλυσμός και τους σάρωσε όλους, έτσι θα είναι η παρουσία του Γιου του ανθρώπου. 40 Τότε δύο θα είναι στον αγρό: ο ένας θα παρθεί και ο άλλος θα εγκαταλειφθεί· 41 δύο γυναίκες θα αλέθουν στο χειρόμυλο: η μία θα παρθεί και η άλλη θα εγκαταλειφθεί. 42 Γι’ αυτό, να είστε σε εγρήγορση, επειδή δεν γνωρίζετε ποια ημέρα έρχεται ο Κύριός σας.

   43 »Αλλά να ξέρετε ένα πράγμα: ότι αν ο οικοδεσπότης γνώριζε στη διάρκεια ποιας φυλακής θα ερχόταν ο κλέφτης, θα έμενε άγρυπνος και δεν θα άφηνε να γίνει διάρρηξη στο σπίτι του. 44 Γι’ αυτό, να αποδειχτείτε και εσείς έτοιμοι, επειδή κάποια ώρα που δεν τη θεωρείτε πιθανή έρχεται ο Γιος του ανθρώπου.

   45 »Ποιος άραγε είναι ο πιστός και φρόνιμος δούλος τον οποίο ο κύριός του διόρισε υπεύθυνο στο υπηρετικό προσωπικό του για να τους δίνει την τροφή τους στον κατάλληλο καιρό; 46 Ευτυχισμένος είναι εκείνος ο δούλος αν ο κύριός του, όταν έρθει, τον βρει να ενεργεί έτσι! 47 Αληθινά σας λέω: Θα τον διορίσει υπεύθυνο σε όλα τα υπάρχοντά του.

   48 »Αλλά αν πει ο κακός εκείνος δούλος μέσα στην καρδιά του: “Ο κύριός μου καθυστερεί”, 49 και αρχίσει να χτυπάει τους συνδούλους του και να τρώει και να πίνει με τους αδιόρθωτους μέθυσους, 50 ο κύριος εκείνου του δούλου θα έρθει μια ημέρα που αυτός δεν περιμένει και μια ώρα που αυτός δεν γνωρίζει, 51 και θα τον τιμωρήσει με τη μεγαλύτερη αυστηρότητα και θα του ορίσει το μέρος του με τους υποκριτές. Εκεί θα είναι το κλάμα του και το τρίξιμο των δοντιών του.
 

29 “Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30 And then the sign of the Son of man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will beat themselves in lamentation, and they will see the Son of man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And he will send forth his angels with a great trumpet sound, and they will gather his chosen ones together from the four winds, from one extremity of the heavens to their other extremity.

32 “Now learn from the fig tree as an illustration this point: Just as soon as its young branch grows tender and it puts forth leaves, YOU know that summer is near. 33 Likewise also YOU, when YOU see all these things, know that he is near at the doors. 34 Truly I say to YOU that this generation will by no means pass away until all these things occur. 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will by no means pass away.
 

36 “Concerning that day and hour nobody knows, neither the angels of the heavens nor the Son, but only the Father. 37 For just as the days of Noah were, so the presence of the Son of man will be. 38 For as they were in those days before the flood, eating and drinking, men marrying and women being given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark; 39 and they took no note until the flood came and swept them all away, so the presence of the Son of man will be. 40 Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken along and the other be abandoned; 41 two women will be grinding at the hand mill: one will be taken along and the other be abandoned. 42 Keep on the watch, therefore, because YOU do not know on what day YOUR Lord is coming.

43 “But know one thing, that if the householder had known in what watch the thief was coming, he would have kept awake and not allowed his house to be broken into. 44 On this account YOU too prove yourselves ready, because at an hour that YOU do not think to be it, the Son of man is coming.

45 “Who really is the faithful and discreet slave whom his master appointed over his domestics, to give them their food at the proper time? 46 Happy is that slave if his master on arriving finds him doing so. 47 Truly I say to YOU, He will appoint him over all his belongings.

48 “But if ever that evil slave should say in his heart, ‘My master is delaying,’ 49 and should start to beat his fellow slaves and should eat and drink with the confirmed drunkards, 50 the master of that slave will come on a day that he does not expect and in an hour that he does not know, 51 and will punish him with the greatest severity and will assign him his part with the hypocrites. There is where [his] weeping and the gnashing of [his] teeth will be.
