Ματθαίος 21:10―21:27
 

   10 Όταν μπήκε στην Ιερουσαλήμ, ολόκληρη η πόλη αναστατώθηκε και έλεγε: «Ποιος είναι αυτός;» 11 Τα πλήθη έλεγαν: «Αυτός είναι ο προφήτης Ιησούς, από τη Ναζαρέτ της Γαλιλαίας!»

   12 Και ο Ιησούς μπήκε στο ναό και έδιωξε όλους εκείνους που πουλούσαν και αγόραζαν στο ναό, και αναποδογύρισε τα τραπέζια των αργυραμοιβών και τους πάγκους εκείνων που πουλούσαν περιστέρια. 13 Και τους είπε: «Είναι γραμμένο: “Ο οίκος μου θα αποκαλείται οίκος προσευχής”, αλλά εσείς τον κάνετε σπηλιά ληστών». 14 Επίσης, τυφλοί και κουτσοί τον πλησίασαν στο ναό, και αυτός τους θεράπευσε.

   15 Όταν είδαν οι πρωθιερείς και οι γραμματείς τα θαυμαστά πράγματα που έκανε, καθώς και τα αγόρια που κραύγαζαν στο ναό και έλεγαν: «Σώσε, σε ικετεύουμε, τον Γιο του Δαβίδ!» αγανάκτησαν 16 και του είπαν: «Ακούς τι λένε αυτά;» Ο Ιησούς τούς είπε: «Ναι. Ποτέ δεν διαβάσατε ότι “από το στόμα νηπίων και βρεφών που θηλάζουν ετοίμασες αίνο”;» 17 Και αφήνοντάς τους, βγήκε έξω από την πόλη, στη Βηθανία, και διανυκτέρευσε εκεί.

   18 Ενώ επέστρεφε στην πόλη νωρίς το πρωί, πείνασε. 19 Και είδε μια συκιά δίπλα στο δρόμο και πήγε κοντά σε αυτήν, αλλά δεν βρήκε τίποτα πάνω της παρά μόνο φύλλα, και της είπε: «Ποτέ πια να μη βγει καρπός από εσένα». Και ευθύς ξεράθηκε η συκιά. 20 Όταν το είδαν αυτό οι μαθητές, απόρησαν και είπαν: «Πώς έγινε και ξεράθηκε ευθύς η συκιά;» 21 Απαντώντας ο Ιησούς τούς είπε: «Αληθινά σας λέω: Αν έχετε πίστη και δεν αμφιβάλλετε, όχι μόνο θα κάνετε ό,τι έκανα εγώ στη συκιά, αλλά και αν πείτε σε αυτό το βουνό: “Σήκω και πέσε στη θάλασσα”, θα γίνει. 22 Και όλα όσα ζητάτε στην προσευχή, έχοντας πίστη, θα τα λάβετε».

   23 Και αφού μπήκε στο ναό, οι πρωθιερείς και οι πρεσβύτεροι του λαού τον πλησίασαν ενώ δίδασκε και είπαν: «Με ποια εξουσία κάνεις αυτά τα πράγματα; Και ποιος σου έδωσε αυτή την εξουσία;» 24 Απαντώντας ο Ιησούς τούς είπε: «Θα σας ρωτήσω και εγώ κάτι. Αν μου το πείτε, θα σας πω και εγώ με ποια εξουσία κάνω αυτά τα πράγματα: 25 Το βάφτισμα του Ιωάννη από πού προερχόταν; Από τον ουρανό ή από ανθρώπους;» Αλλά αυτοί άρχισαν να συζητούν μεταξύ τους, λέγοντας: «Αν πούμε: “Από τον ουρανό”, θα μας πει: “Γιατί, λοιπόν, δεν τον πιστέψατε;” 26 Αν πάλι πούμε: “Από ανθρώπους”, έχουμε να φοβηθούμε το πλήθος, γιατί όλοι θεωρούν τον Ιωάννη προφήτη». 27 Απαντώντας, λοιπόν, στον Ιησού, είπαν: «Δεν ξέρουμε». Και αυτός τους είπε: «Ούτε εγώ σας λέω με ποια εξουσία κάνω αυτά τα πράγματα.
 

10 Now when he entered into Jerusalem, the whole city was set in commotion, saying: “Who is this?” 11 The crowds kept telling: “This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth of Galilee!”

12 And Jesus entered into the temple and threw out all those selling and buying in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves. 13 And he said to them: “It is written, ‘My house will be called a house of prayer,’ but YOU are making it a cave of robbers.” 14 Also, blind and lame persons came up to him in the temple, and he cured them.

15 When the chief priests and the scribes saw the marvelous things he did and the boys that were crying out in the temple and saying: “Save, we pray, the Son of David!” they became indignant 16 and said to him: “Do you hear what these are saying?” Jesus said to them: “Yes. Did YOU never read this, ‘Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings you have furnished praise’?” 17 And leaving them behind he went outside the city to Bethany and passed the night there.

18 While returning to the city early in the morning, he got hungry. 19 And he caught sight of a fig tree by the road and went to it, but he found nothing on it except leaves only, and he said to it: “Let no fruit come from you anymore forever.” And the fig tree withered instantly. 20 But when the disciples saw this, they wondered, saying: “How is it that the fig tree withered instantly?” 21 In answer Jesus said to them: “Truly I say to YOU, If only YOU have faith and do not doubt, not only will YOU do what I did to the fig tree, but also if YOU say to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and cast into the sea,’ it will happen. 22 And all the things YOU ask in prayer, having faith, YOU will receive.”

23 Now after he went into the temple, the chief priests and the older men of the people came up to him while he was teaching and said: “By what authority do you do these things? And who gave you this authority?” 24 In reply Jesus said to them: “I, also, will ask YOU one thing. If YOU tell it to me, I also will tell YOU by what authority I do these things: 25 The baptism by John, from what source was it? From heaven or from men?” But they began to reason among themselves, saying: “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say to us, ‘Why, then, did YOU not believe him?’ 26 If, though, we say, ‘From men,’ we have the crowd to fear, for they all hold John as a prophet.” 27 So in answer to Jesus they said: “We do not know.” He, in turn, said to them: “Neither am I telling YOU by what authority I do these things.
