Πράξεις

1  Την πρώτη αφήγηση, Θεόφιλε,  τη συνέταξα σχετικά με όλα τα πράγματα που ο Ιησούς άρχισε και να κάνει και να διδάσκει  2 μέχρι την ημέρα που αναλήφθηκε,  αφού έδωσε εντολή μέσω αγίου πνεύματος στους αποστόλους τους οποίους εξέλεξε.  3  Σε αυτούς, επίσης, με πολλές θετικές αποδείξεις παρουσίασε τον εαυτό του ζωντανό αφότου υπέφερε,  καθώς γινόταν ορατός σε αυτούς επί σαράντα ημέρες και έλεγε τα σχετικά με τη βασιλεία του Θεού.  4  Και τον καιρό που συναντιόταν μαζί τους, τους έδωσε τις εντολές: «Μην αποχωρείτε από την Ιερουσαλήμ,  αλλά να περιμένετε αυτό που έχει υποσχεθεί ο Πατέρας,  σχετικά με το οποίο ακούσατε από εμένα· 5 επειδή ο Ιωάννης μεν βάφτισε με νερό, αλλά εσείς θα βαφτιστείτε σε άγιο πνεύμα  πριν περάσουν πολλές ημέρες».

   6 Αφού συνάχθηκαν, λοιπόν, άρχισαν να τον ρωτούν: «Κύριε, μήπως αυτόν τον καιρό αποκαθιστάς τη βασιλεία  στον Ισραήλ;» 7 Εκείνος τους είπε: «Δεν ανήκει σε εσάς να λάβετε γνώση για τους χρόνους ή τους καιρούς  που ο Πατέρας έχει θέσει στη δική του δικαιοδοσία·  8 αλλά θα λάβετε δύναμη  όταν το άγιο πνεύμα έρθει πάνω σας και θα είστε μάρτυρές  μου τόσο στην Ιερουσαλήμ  όσο και σε όλη την Ιουδαία και τη Σαμάρεια  και ως το πιο απομακρυσμένο μέρος της γης».  9 Και αφού τα είπε αυτά και ενώ εκείνοι κοίταζαν, ανυψώθηκε  και ένα σύννεφο τον άρπαξε προς τα πάνω και τον έκρυψε από τα μάτια τους.  10 Και καθώς ατένιζαν τον ουρανό, ενώ αυτός έφευγε,  ξαφνικά δύο άντρες με λευκά  ενδύματα στάθηκαν δίπλα τους 11και είπαν: «Άντρες Γαλιλαίοι, γιατί στέκεστε και κοιτάζετε στον ουρανό; Αυτός ο Ιησούς που αναλήφθηκε από εσάς στον ουρανό θα έρθει έτσι, με τον ίδιο τρόπο  με τον οποίο τον είδατε να πηγαίνει στον ουρανό».

   12 Τότε επέστρεψαν  στην Ιερουσαλήμ από ένα βουνό που ονομαζόταν Όρος των Ελαιών, το οποίο είναι κοντά στην Ιερουσαλήμ, σε απόσταση οδοιπορίας σαββάτου.  13  Έτσι λοιπόν, αφού μπήκαν σε αυτήν, ανέβηκαν στο ανώγειο  όπου έμεναν, ο Πέτρος καθώς και ο Ιωάννης και ο Ιάκωβος και ο Ανδρέας, ο Φίλιππος και ο Θωμάς, ο Βαρθολομαίος και ο Ματθαίος, ο Ιάκωβος, ο γιος του Αλφαίου, και ο Σίμων ο ζηλωτής και ο Ιούδας, ο γιος του Ιακώβου.  14  Όλοι αυτοί ενέμεναν σύσσωμοι στην προσευχή  μαζί με μερικές γυναίκες  και τη Μαρία, τη μητέρα του Ιησού, και με τους αδελφούς  του.

   15 Αυτές, λοιπόν, τις ημέρες σηκώθηκε ο Πέτρος στο μέσο των αδελφών και είπε (το πλήθος ήταν περίπου εκατόν είκοσι άτομα όλοι μαζί): 16 «Άντρες αδελφοί, ήταν απαραίτητο να εκπληρωθεί η γραφή,  την οποία προείπε το άγιο πνεύμα  μέσω του στόματος του Δαβίδ σχετικά με τον Ιούδα,  ο οποίος έγινε οδηγός σε εκείνους που συνέλαβαν τον Ιησού,  17 επειδή αυτός είχε συγκαταριθμηθεί ανάμεσά μας  και απέκτησε συμμετοχή σε αυτή τη διακονία.  18 (Αυτός, λοιπόν, αγόρασε  έναν αγρό με το μισθό της αδικίας  και, πέφτοντας με το κεφάλι,  σκίστηκε με θόρυβο στη μέση και χύθηκαν έξω όλα του τα έντερα. 19 Και αυτό έγινε γνωστό σε όλους τους κατοίκους της Ιερουσαλήμ, ώστε εκείνος ο αγρός ονομάστηκε στη γλώσσα τους Ακελδαμά, δηλαδή Αγρός Αίματος.) 20 Διότι είναι γραμμένο στο βιβλίο των Ψαλμών: “Ας ερημωθεί η κατοικία του και ας μην υπάρχει κάτοικος σε αυτήν”  και “Τη θέση επισκοπής που είχε ας την πάρει κάποιος άλλος”.  21Είναι συνεπώς απαραίτητο, από τους άντρες που συνάγονταν μαζί μας όλο τον καιρό που ο Κύριος Ιησούς έμπαινε και έβγαινε ανάμεσά μας,  22 αρχίζοντας με το βάφτισμά του από τον Ιωάννη  και μέχρι την ημέρα που αναλήφθηκε από εμάς,  ένας από αυτούς τους άντρες να γίνει μάρτυρας της ανάστασής του μαζί με εμάς». 

  23  Πρότειναν, λοιπόν, δύο: τον Ιωσήφ τον αποκαλούμενο Βαρσαββά, ο οποίος επονομαζόταν Ιούστος, και τον Ματθία. 24  Και προσευχήθηκαν και είπαν: «Εσύ, Ιεχωβά, που γνωρίζεις τις καρδιές όλων,  όρισε ποιον από αυτούς τους δύο άντρες έχεις εκλέξει 25 για να πάρει τη θέση αυτής της διακονίας και της ιδιότητας του αποστόλου,  από την οποία ο Ιούδας παρέκκλινε για να πάει στη δική του θέση». 26 Έριξαν, λοιπόν, κλήρο  για αυτούς, και ο κλήρος έπεσε στον Ματθία· και αυτός συγκαταλέχθηκε με τους έντεκα  αποστόλους.

1 The first account, O Theophilus, I composed about all the things Jesus started both to do and to teach, 2 until the day that he was taken up, after he had given commandment through holy spirit to the apostles whom he chose. 3 To these also by many positive proofs he showed himself alive after he had suffered, being seen by them throughout forty days and telling the things about the kingdom of God. 4 And while he was meeting with them he gave them the orders: “Do not withdraw from Jerusalem, but keep waiting for what the Father has promised, about which YOU heard from me; 5 because John, indeed, baptized with water, but YOU will be baptized in holy spirit not many days after this.”

6 When, now, they had assembled, they went asking him: “Lord, are you restoring the kingdom to Israel at this time?” 7 He said to them: “It does not belong to YOU to get knowledge of the times or seasons which the Father has placed in his own jurisdiction; 8 but YOU will receive power when the holy spirit arrives upon YOU, and YOU will be witnesses of me both in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria and to the most distant part of the earth.” 9 And after he had said these things, while they were looking on, he was lifted up and a cloud caught him up from their vision. 10 And as they were gazing into the sky while he was on his way, also, look! two men in white garments stood alongside them, 11 and they said: “Men of Galilee, why do YOU stand looking into the sky? This Jesus who was received up from YOU into the sky will come thus in the same manner as YOU have beheld him going into the sky.”

12 Then they returned to Jerusalem from a mountain called the Mount of Olives, which is near Jerusalem, being a sabbath day’s journey away. 13 So, when they had entered, they went up into the upper chamber, where they were staying, Peter as well as John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James [the son] of Alphaeus and Simon the zealous one, and Judas [the son] of James. 14 With one accord all these were persisting in prayer, together with some women and Mary the mother of Jesus and with his brothers.

15 Now during these days Peter rose up in the midst of the brothers and said (the crowd of persons was all together about one hundred and twenty): 16 “Men, brothers, it was necessary for the scripture to be fulfilled, which the holy spirit spoke beforehand by David’s mouth about Judas, who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus, 17 because he had been numbered among us and he obtained a share in this ministry. 18 (This very man, therefore, purchased a field with the wages for unrighteousness, and pitching head foremost he noisily burst in his midst and all his intestines were poured out. 19 It also became known to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that that field was called in their language Akeldama, that is, Field of Blood.) 20 For it is written in the book of Psalms, ‘Let his lodging place become desolate, and let there be no dweller in it,’ and, ‘His office of oversight let someone else take.’ 21 It is therefore necessary that of the men that assembled with us during all the time in which the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, 22 starting with his baptism by John and until the day he was received up from us, one of these men should become a witness with us of his resurrection.”

      23 So they put up two, Joseph called Barsabbas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias. 24 And they prayed and said: “You, O Jehovah, who know the hearts of all, designate which one of these two men you have chosen, 25 to take the place of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas deviated to go to his own place.” 26 So they cast lots over them, and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was reckoned along with the eleven apostles.
