Πράξεις 9:1 — 9:22

9  Αλλά ο Σαύλος, πνέοντας ακόμη απειλή και φόνο  εναντίον των μαθητών  του Κυρίου, πήγε στον αρχιερέα 2 και του ζήτησε επιστολές προς τις συναγωγές στη Δαμασκό, για να φέρει δεμένους στην Ιερουσαλήμ όποιους έβρισκε να ανήκουν στην Οδό,  άντρες και γυναίκες.

   3  Καθώς, λοιπόν, ταξίδευε, πλησίαζε στη Δαμασκό, όταν ξαφνικά άστραψε γύρω του ένα φως από τον ουρανό,  4  και αυτός έπεσε στο έδαφος και άκουσε μια φωνή να του λέει: «Σαούλ, Σαούλ, γιατί με διώκεις;»  5 Αυτός είπε: «Ποιος είσαι, Κύριε;» Εκείνος είπε: «Εγώ είμαι ο Ιησούς, τον οποίο εσύ διώκεις.  6 Σήκω,  όμως, και μπες στην πόλη, και θα σου ειπωθεί τι πρέπει να κάνεις». 7 Οι άντρες που ταξίδευαν μαζί του  στέκονταν άλαλοι,  ακούγοντας μεν τον ήχο κάποιας φωνής,  μη βλέποντας όμως κανέναν. 8 Ο δε Σαύλος σηκώθηκε από το έδαφος και, μολονότι τα μάτια του ήταν ανοιχτά, δεν έβλεπε τίποτα.  Γι’ αυτό, τον οδήγησαν από το χέρι και τον έφεραν στη Δαμασκό. 9 Και τρεις ημέρες δεν έβλεπε τίποτα,  και ούτε έφαγε ούτε ήπιε.

   10  Στη Δαμασκό υπήρχε κάποιος μαθητής ονόματι Ανανίας,  και ο Κύριος του είπε σε όραμα: «Ανανία!» Αυτός είπε: «Ορίστε, Κύριε!» 11Ο Κύριος του είπε: «Σήκω, πήγαινε στην οδό που ονομάζεται Ευθεία και αναζήτησε στο σπίτι του Ιούδα κάποιον ονόματι Σαύλο, από την Ταρσό.  Διότι ορίστε! προσεύχεται, 12 και σε όραμα είδε έναν άντρα ονόματι Ανανία να μπαίνει μέσα και να θέτει πάνω σε αυτόν τα χέρια του για να ξαναβρεί την όρασή του».  13  Αλλά ο Ανανίας απάντησε: «Κύριε, έχω ακούσει από πολλούς για αυτόν τον άντρα, πόσα κακά πράγματα έκανε στους αγίους σου στην Ιερουσαλήμ. 14  Και εδώ έχει εξουσία από τους πρωθιερείς να βάλει σε δεσμά όλους όσους επικαλούνται το όνομά σου».  15 Ο Κύριος, όμως, του είπε: «Πήγαινε, επειδή αυτός είναι για εμένα σκεύος εκλεγμένο,  για να φέρει το όνομά μου στα έθνη  καθώς και σε βασιλιάδες  και στους γιους του Ισραήλ. 16 Διότι θα του δείξω καθαρά πόσα πρέπει να πάθει για το όνομά μου». 

   17  Ο Ανανίας, λοιπόν, πήγε και μπήκε στο σπίτι και έθεσε πάνω σε αυτόν τα χέρια του και είπε: «Σαούλ, αδελφέ, ο Κύριος, ο Ιησούς ο οποίος εμφανίστηκε σε εσένα στο δρόμο που ερχόσουν, με απέστειλε για να ξαναβρείς την όρασή σου και να γεμίσεις άγιο πνεύμα».  18 Και αμέσως έπεσαν από τα μάτια του κάτι σαν λέπια και ξαναβρήκε την όρασή του· και σηκώθηκε και βαφτίστηκε, 19 και έφαγε τροφή και πήρε δύναμη. 

   Έμεινε δε μερικές ημέρες με τους μαθητές στη Δαμασκό,  20 και αμέσως στις συναγωγές άρχισε να κηρύττει τον Ιησού,  ότι Αυτός είναι ο Γιος του Θεού. 21 Αλλά όλοι όσοι τον άκουγαν έμεναν κατάπληκτοι και έλεγαν: «Δεν είναι αυτός που έσπειρε όλεθρο  στην Ιερουσαλήμ ανάμεσα σε εκείνους που επικαλούνται αυτό το όνομα, και ο οποίος είχε έρθει εδώ γι’ αυτόν ακριβώς το σκοπό, για να τους οδηγήσει δεμένους στους πρωθιερείς;»  22 Ο Σαύλος, όμως, αποκτούσε όλο και περισσότερη δύναμη και έφερνε σε σύγχυση τους Ιουδαίους που κατοικούσαν στη Δαμασκό καθώς αποδείκνυε λογικά ότι αυτός είναι ο Χριστός. 
 

9 But Saul, still breathing threat and murder against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest 2 and asked him for letters to the synagogues in Damascus, in order that he might bring bound to Jerusalem any whom he found who belonged to The Way, both men and women.

3 Now as he was traveling he approached Damascus, when suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him, 4 and he fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him: “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?” 5 He said: “Who are you, Lord?” He said: “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. 6 Nevertheless, rise and enter into the city, and what you must do will be told you.” 7 Now the men that were journeying with him were standing speechless, hearing, indeed, the sound of a voice, but not beholding any man. 8 But Saul got up from the ground, and though his eyes were opened he was seeing nothing. So they led him by the hand and conducted him into Damascus. 9 And for three days he did not see anything, and he neither ate nor drank.

10 There was in Damascus a certain disciple named Ananias, and the Lord said to him in a vision: “Ananias!” He said: “Here I am, Lord.” 11 The Lord said to him: “Rise, go to the street called Straight, and at the house of Judas look for a man named Saul, from Tarsus. For, look! he is praying, 12 and in a vision he has seen a man named Ananias come in and lay his hands upon him that he might recover sight.” 13 But Ananias answered: “Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how many injurious things he did to your holy ones in Jerusalem. 14 And here he has authority from the chief priests to put in bonds all those calling upon your name.” 15 But the Lord said to him: “Be on your way, because this man is a chosen vessel to me to bear my name to the nations as well as to kings and the sons of Israel. 16 For I shall show him plainly how many things he must suffer for my name.”

17 So Ananias went off and entered into the house, and he laid his hands upon him and said: “Saul, brother, the Lord, the Jesus that appeared to you on the road over which you were coming, has sent me forth, in order that you may recover sight and be filled with holy spirit.” 18 And immediately there fell from his eyes what looked like scales, and he recovered sight; and he rose and was baptized, 19 and he took food and gained strength.

He got to be for some days with the disciples in Damascus, 20 and immediately in the synagogues he began to preach Jesus, that this One is the Son of God. 21 But all those hearing him gave way to astonishment and would say: “Is this not the man that ravaged those in Jerusalem who call upon this name, and that had come here for this very purpose, that he might lead them bound to the chief priests?” 22 But Saul kept on acquiring power all the more and was confounding the Jews that dwelt in Damascus as he proved logically that this is the Christ.
