   12  Την πρώτη ημέρα των άζυμων άρτων, όταν σύμφωνα με το έθιμο έκαναν τη θυσία του πάσχα, του είπαν οι μαθητές του: «Πού θέλεις να πάμε και να σου ετοιμάσουμε να φας το πάσχα;» 13  Τότε έστειλε δύο από τους μαθητές του και τους είπε: «Πηγαίνετε στην πόλη, και θα σας ανταμώσει κάποιος άνθρωπος που θα βαστάει ένα πήλινο σκεύος για νερό. Ακολουθήστε τον 14  και, όπου μπει, πείτε στον οικοδεσπότη: “Ο Δάσκαλος λέει: «Πού είναι ο ξενώνας για εμένα, όπου θα φάω το πάσχα με τους μαθητές μου;»” 15  Και αυτός θα σας δείξει ένα μεγάλο ανώγειο, επιπλωμένο και έτοιμο· και εκεί ετοιμάστε για εμάς». 16  Οι μαθητές, λοιπόν, βγήκαν έξω και μπήκαν στην πόλη και το βρήκαν όπως τους είχε πει· και ετοίμασαν το πάσχα.

   17  Αφού βράδιασε, εκείνος έφτασε με τους δώδεκα. 18  Και καθώς πλάγιαζαν μπροστά στο τραπέζι και έτρωγαν, ο Ιησούς είπε: «Αληθινά σας λέω: Ένας από εσάς, που τρώει μαζί μου, θα με προδώσει». 19  Αυτοί άρχισαν να λυπούνται και να του λένε ο ένας μετά τον άλλον: «Μήπως είμαι εγώ;» 20  Εκείνος τους είπε: «Είναι ένας από τους δώδεκα, ο οποίος βουτάει μαζί μου στην κοινή μας κούπα. 21  Βέβαια, ο Γιος του ανθρώπου φεύγει, όπως είναι γραμμένο σχετικά με αυτόν, αλλά αλίμονο σε εκείνον τον άνθρωπο μέσω του οποίου προδίδεται ο Γιος του ανθρώπου! Θα ήταν καλύτερο για εκείνον τον άνθρωπο να μην είχε γεννηθεί».

   22  Και καθώς συνέχιζαν να τρώνε, πήρε ένα ψωμί, είπε μια ευλογία, το έσπασε και τους το έδωσε και είπε: «Πάρτε το, αυτό σημαίνει το σώμα μου». 23  Και αφού πήρε ένα ποτήρι, έκανε μια ευχαριστήρια προσευχή και τους το έδωσε και ήπιαν όλοι από αυτό. 24  Και τους είπε: «Αυτό σημαίνει το “αίμα μου της διαθήκης”, το οποίο θα χυθεί για χάρη πολλών. 25  Αληθινά σας λέω: Δεν πρόκειται πλέον να πιω από το γέννημα του κλήματος μέχρι εκείνη την ημέρα που θα το πίνω καινούριο στη βασιλεία του Θεού». 26  Τελικά, αφού έψαλαν αίνους, βγήκαν έξω στο Όρος των Ελαιών.

   27  Και ο Ιησούς τούς είπε: «Όλοι σας θα σκανδαλιστείτε, επειδή είναι γραμμένο: “Θα πατάξω τον ποιμένα, και τα πρόβατα θα διασκορπιστούν”. 28  Αλλά αφού εγερθώ, θα πάω πριν από εσάς στη Γαλιλαία». 29  Ο Πέτρος, όμως, του είπε: «Ακόμη και αν όλοι οι άλλοι σκανδαλιστούν, εντούτοις εγώ δεν θα σκανδαλιστώ». 30  Τότε ο Ιησούς τού είπε: «Αληθινά σου λέω: Εσύ ο ίδιος σήμερα, ναι, αυτή τη νύχτα, προτού λαλήσει πετεινός δύο φορές, θα με απαρνηθείς τρεις φορές». 31  Αλλά αυτός άρχισε να λέει ασυγκράτητα: «Και αν χρειαστεί να πεθάνω μαζί σου, δεν πρόκειται να σε απαρνηθώ». Και όλοι οι άλλοι άρχισαν να λένε το ίδιο.

   32  Ήρθαν, λοιπόν, σε ένα μέρος που ονομαζόταν Γεθσημανή, και εκείνος είπε στους μαθητές του: «Καθήστε εδώ ενόσω εγώ θα προσεύχομαι». 33  Και πήρε μαζί του τον Πέτρο και τον Ιάκωβο και τον Ιωάννη, και άρχισε να αγωνιά και να νιώθει έντονη ταραχή. 34  Και τους είπε: «Η ψυχή μου είναι βαθιά λυπημένη, μέχρι θανάτου. Μείνετε εδώ και να είστε σε εγρήγορση». 35  Και πηγαίνοντας λίγο μακρύτερα, έπεσε στο έδαφος και προσευχόταν, αν ήταν δυνατόν, να παρέλθει αυτή η ώρα από αυτόν. 36  Και έλεγε: «Αββά, Πατέρα, τα πάντα είναι δυνατά για εσένα· απομάκρυνε αυτό το ποτήρι από εμένα. Εντούτοις, όχι αυτό που εγώ θέλω, αλλά αυτό που εσύ θέλεις». 37  Και ήρθε και τους βρήκε να κοιμούνται, και είπε στον Πέτρο: «Σίμων, κοιμάσαι; Δεν είχες τη δύναμη να είσαι σε εγρήγορση μία ώρα; 38  Να είστε σε εγρήγορση και να προσεύχεστε, για να μην έρθετε σε πειρασμό. Το μεν πνεύμα είναι πρόθυμο, αλλά η σάρκα αδύναμη». 39  Και έφυγε πάλι και προσευχήθηκε, λέγοντας τα ίδια λόγια. 40  Και πάλι ήρθε και τους βρήκε να κοιμούνται, γιατί τα μάτια τους είχαν βαρύνει, και έτσι δεν ήξεραν τι να του απαντήσουν. 41  Και ήρθε την τρίτη φορά και τους είπε: «Στιγμές σαν και αυτές εσείς κοιμάστε και αναπαύεστε! Αρκετά! Ήρθε η ώρα! Δείτε! Ο Γιος του ανθρώπου παραδίδεται με προδοσία στα χέρια αμαρτωλών. 42  Σηκωθείτε, πάμε. Ορίστε! Ο προδότης μου έχει πλησιάσει».

12 Now on the first day of unfermented cakes, when they customarily sacrificed the passover [victim], his disciples said to him: “Where do you want us to go and prepare for you to eat the passover?” 13 With that he sent forth two of his disciples and said to them: “Go into the city, and a man carrying an earthenware vessel of water will encounter YOU. Follow him, 14 and wherever he goes inside say to the householder, ‘The Teacher says: “Where is the guest room for me where I may eat the passover with my disciples?”’ 15 And he will show YOU a large upper room, furnished in preparation; and there prepare for us.” 16 So the disciples went out, and they entered the city and found it just as he said to them; and they prepared for the passover.

17 After evening had fallen he came with the twelve. 18 And as they were reclining at the table and eating, Jesus said: “Truly I say to YOU, One of YOU, who is eating with me, will betray me.” 19 They started to be grieved and to say to him one by one: “It is not I, is it?” 20 He said to them: “It is one of the twelve, who is dipping with me into the common bowl. 21 True, the Son of man is going away, just as it is written concerning him, but woe to that man through whom the Son of man is betrayed! It would have been finer for that man if he had not been born.”

22 And as they continued eating, he took a loaf, said a blessing, broke it and gave it to them, and said: “Take it, this means my body.” 23 And taking a cup, he offered thanks and gave it to them, and they all drank out of it. 24 And he said to them: “This means my ‘blood of the covenant,’ which is to be poured out in behalf of many. 25 Truly I say to YOU, I shall by no means drink anymore of the product of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.” 26 Finally, after singing praises, they went out to the Mount of Olives.

27 And Jesus said to them: “YOU will all be stumbled, because it is written, ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered about.’ 28 But after I have been raised up I will go ahead of YOU into Galilee.” 29 But Peter said to him: “Even if all the others are stumbled, yet I will not be.” 30 At that Jesus said to him: “Truly I say to you, You today, yes, this night, before a cock crows twice, even you will disown me three times.” 31 But he began to say profusely: “If I have to die with you, I will by no means disown you.” Also, all the others began saying the same thing.

32 So they came to a spot named Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples: “Sit down here while I pray.” 33 And he took Peter and James and John along with him, and he started to be stunned and to be sorely troubled. 34 And he said to them: “My soul is deeply grieved, even to death. Stay here and keep on the watch.” 35 And going a little way forward he proceeded to fall on the ground and began praying that, if it were possible, the hour might pass away from him. 36 And he went on to say: “Abba, Father, all things are possible to you; remove this cup from me. Yet not what I want, but what you want.” 37 And he came and found them sleeping, and he said to Peter: “Simon, are you sleeping? Did you not have strength to keep on the watch one hour? 38 Men, keep on the watch and praying, in order that YOU do not come into temptation. The spirit, of course, is eager, but the flesh is weak.” 39 And he went away again and prayed, saying the same word. 40 And again he came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were weighed down, and so they did not know what to answer him. 41 And he came the third time and said to them: “At such a time as this YOU are sleeping and taking YOUR rest! It is enough! The hour has come! Look! The Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. 42 Get up, let us go. Look! My betrayer has drawn near.”
