   16 »Κανείς, αφού ανάψει λυχνάρι, δεν το καλύπτει με κάποιο σκεύος ούτε το βάζει κάτω από το κρεβάτι, αλλά το βάζει πάνω σε λυχνοστάτη, ώστε εκείνοι που μπαίνουν να βλέπουν το φως. 17 Διότι δεν υπάρχει τίποτα κρυμμένο που δεν θα γίνει φανερό ούτε κάτι προσεκτικά αποκρυμμένο που δεν θα γίνει ποτέ γνωστό και δεν θα έρθει ποτέ στην επιφάνεια. 18 Συνεπώς, να δίνετε προσοχή στο πώς ακούτε· διότι όποιος έχει, θα του δοθεί περισσότερο, αλλά όποιος δεν έχει, ακόμη και αυτό που νομίζει ότι έχει θα του αφαιρεθεί».

   19 Και ήρθαν προς αυτόν η μητέρα του και οι αδελφοί του, αλλά δεν μπορούσαν να φτάσουν σε αυτόν εξαιτίας του πλήθους. 20 Του αναφέρθηκε λοιπόν: «Η μητέρα σου και οι αδελφοί σου στέκονται έξω και θέλουν να σε δουν». 21 Απαντώντας αυτός τους είπε: «Η μητέρα μου και οι αδελφοί μου είναι αυτοί που ακούν το λόγο του Θεού και τον εκτελούν».

   22 Κάποια από εκείνες τις ημέρες αυτός και οι μαθητές του μπήκαν σε ένα πλοιάριο, και αυτός τους είπε: «Ας περάσουμε στην απέναντι πλευρά της λίμνης». Και απέπλευσαν. 23 Αλλά καθώς έπλεαν αυτός αποκοιμήθηκε. Κατέβηκε, λοιπόν, στη λίμνη βίαιη ανεμοθύελλα, και άρχισαν να γεμίζουν νερό και να κινδυνεύουν. 24 Τελικά, πήγαν σε αυτόν και τον σήκωσαν, λέγοντας: «Δάσκαλε, Δάσκαλε, χανόμαστε!» Εκείνος τότε σηκώθηκε και επέπληξε τον άνεμο και τη μανία του νερού, και αυτά κόπασαν και επικράτησε ηρεμία. 25 Τότε τους είπε: «Πού είναι η πίστη σας;» Αλλά αυτοί, έχοντας καταληφθεί από φόβο, θαύμασαν, λέγοντας ο ένας στον άλλον: «Ποιος είναι άραγε αυτός; Επειδή προστάζει ακόμη και τους ανέμους και το νερό, και αυτά τον υπακούν».

   26 Και κατέπλευσαν στη χώρα των Γερασηνών, η οποία είναι στην πλευρά απέναντι από τη Γαλιλαία. 27 Αλλά καθώς βγήκε στη στεριά, τον συνάντησε κάποιος άντρας από την πόλη, ο οποίος είχε δαίμονες. Και επί αρκετό καιρό αυτός δεν φορούσε ρούχα και έμενε, όχι σε σπίτι, αλλά στα μνήματα. 28 Βλέποντας τον Ιησού, κραύγασε δυνατά και έπεσε κάτω μπροστά του και με δυνατή φωνή είπε: «Τι σχέση έχω εγώ με εσένα, Ιησού, Γιε του Υψίστου Θεού; Σε παρακαλώ, μη με βασανίσεις». 29 (Επειδή πρόσταζε το ακάθαρτο πνεύμα να βγει από τον άνθρωπο. Διότι επί πολύ καιρό αυτό τον είχε κρατήσει γερά, και τον έδεναν επανειλημμένα με αλυσίδες και ποδόδεσμα φρουρώντας τον, αλλά αυτός έσπαζε τα δεσμά και οδηγούνταν από το δαίμονα στους ερημικούς τόπους.) 30 Ο Ιησούς τον ρώτησε: «Ποιο είναι το όνομά σου;» Αυτός είπε: «Λεγεώνα», επειδή πολλοί δαίμονες είχαν μπει σε αυτόν. 31 Και τον ικέτευαν να μην τους προστάξει να πάνε στην άβυσσο. 32 Ένα αρκετά μεγάλο κοπάδι γουρούνια έβοσκε εκεί πάνω στο βουνό· τον ικέτευσαν, λοιπόν, να τους επιτρέψει να μπουν σε εκείνα. Και τους το επέτρεψε. 33 Τότε οι δαίμονες βγήκαν από τον άνθρωπο και μπήκαν στα γουρούνια, και το κοπάδι όρμησε από τον γκρεμό στη λίμνη και πνίγηκε. 34 Και όταν οι βοσκοί είδαν τι είχε συμβεί, έφυγαν και το ανέφεραν στην πόλη και στην ύπαιθρο.

16 “No one, after lighting a lamp, covers it with a vessel or puts it underneath a bed, but he puts it on a lampstand, that those stepping in may behold the light. 17 For there is nothing hidden that will not become manifest, neither anything carefully concealed that will never become known and never come into the open. 18 Therefore, pay attention to how YOU listen; for whoever has, more will be given him, but whoever does not have, even what he imagines he has will be taken away from him.”

19 Now his mother and brothers came toward him, but they were unable to get to him because of the crowd. 20 However, it was reported to him: “Your mother and your brothers are standing outside wanting to see you.” 21 In reply he said to them: “My mother and my brothers are these who hear the word of God and do it.”

22 In the course of one of the days he and his disciples got into a boat, and he said to them: “Let us cross to the other side of the lake.” So they set sail. 23 But as they were sailing he fell asleep. Now a violent windstorm descended upon the lake, and they began to fill up with [water] and to be in danger. 24 Finally they went to him and roused him, saying: “Instructor, Instructor, we are about to perish!” Rousing himself, he rebuked the wind and the raging of the water, and they subsided, and a calm set in. 25 Then he said to them: “Where is YOUR faith?” But struck with fear, they marveled, saying to one another: “Who really is this, for he orders even the winds and the water, and they obey him?”

26 And they put in to shore in the country of the Gerasenes, which is on the side opposite Galilee. 27 But as he got out onto land a certain man from the city who had demons met him. And for a considerable time he had not worn clothing, and he was staying, not at home, but among the tombs. 28 At the sight of Jesus he cried aloud and fell down before him, and with a loud voice he said: “What have I to do with you, Jesus Son of the Most High God? I beg you, do not torment me.” 29 (For he had been ordering the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For over a long time it had held him fast, and he was repeatedly bound with chains and fetters under guard, but he would burst the bonds and be driven by the demon into the lonely places.) 30 Jesus asked him: “What is your name?” He said: “Legion,” because many demons had entered into him. 31 And they kept entreating him not to order them to go away into the abyss. 32 Now a herd of a considerable number of swine was feeding there on the mountain; so they entreated him to permit them to enter into those. And he gave them permission. 33 Then the demons went out of the man and entered into the swine, and the herd rushed over the precipice into the lake and drowned. 34 But when the herders saw what had happened, they fled and reported it to the city and to the countryside.
