      Ιωάννης 10:31 — 11:10

   31  Οι Ιουδαίοι πήραν πάλι πέτρες για να τον λιθοβολήσουν.  32  Ο Ιησούς τούς αποκρίθηκε: «Σας έδειξα πολλά καλά έργα από τον Πατέρα. Για ποιο από αυτά τα έργα με λιθοβολείτε;» 33  Οι Ιουδαίοι τού απάντησαν: «Σε λιθοβολούμε, όχι για κάποιο καλό έργο, αλλά για βλασφημία,  και μάλιστα επειδή εσύ, αν και είσαι άνθρωπος, κάνεις τον εαυτό σου θεό».  34  Ο Ιησούς τούς απάντησε: «Δεν είναι γραμμένο στο Νόμο  σας: “Εγώ είπα: «Είστε θεοί»”;  35  Αν αποκάλεσε “θεούς”  εκείνους ενάντια στους οποίους ήρθε ο λόγος του Θεού, και όμως η Γραφή δεν μπορεί να ακυρωθεί,  36  λέτε σε εμένα τον οποίο ο Πατέρας αγίασε και απέστειλε στον κόσμο: “Βλασφημείς”, επειδή είπα: Είμαι Γιος του Θεού;  37  Αν δεν κάνω τα έργα  του Πατέρα μου, μη με πιστεύετε. 38  Αλλά αν τα κάνω αυτά, ακόμη και αν δεν πιστεύετε εμένα, πιστέψτε τα έργα,  ώστε να γνωρίσετε και να συνεχίσετε να γνωρίζετε ότι ο Πατέρας είναι σε ενότητα με εμένα και εγώ είμαι σε ενότητα με τον Πατέρα».  39  Προσπάθησαν, λοιπόν, ξανά να τον πιάσουν·  αλλά ξέφυγε από τα χέρια τους. 

    40  Έτσι λοιπόν, πήγε ξανά στην απέναντι πλευρά του Ιορδάνη στον τόπο όπου βάφτιζε  αρχικά ο Ιωάννης και έμεινε εκεί. 41  Και πολλοί ήρθαν σε αυτόν και άρχισαν να λένε: «Ο Ιωάννης, βέβαια, δεν εκτέλεσε κανένα σημείο, αλλά όσα είπε ο Ιωάννης για αυτόν τον άνθρωπο ήταν όλα αληθινά».  42  Και πολλοί έθεσαν εκεί πίστη σε αυτόν.
 

11  Υπήρχε δε κάποιος άρρωστος, ο Λάζαρος από τη Βηθανία, από το χωριό της Μαρίας και της Μάρθας  της αδελφής της. 2  Εκείνη μάλιστα ήταν η Μαρία που άλειψε τον Κύριο με αρωματικό λάδι  και σκούπισε τα πόδια του με τα μαλλιά της,  ο αδελφός της οποίας, ο Λάζαρος, ήταν άρρωστος. 3  Οι αδελφές του, λοιπόν, έστειλαν μήνυμα σε αυτόν, λέγοντας: «Κύριε, δες! αυτός για τον οποίο νιώθεις στοργή  είναι άρρωστος». 4  Όταν όμως το άκουσε ο Ιησούς, είπε: «Αυτή η αρρώστια δεν είναι για να φέρει θάνατο, αλλά είναι για τη δόξα του Θεού,  ώστε να δοξαστεί ο Γιος του Θεού μέσω αυτής».

   5  Ο Ιησούς αγαπούσε τη Μάρθα και την αδελφή της και τον Λάζαρο. 6  Ωστόσο, όταν άκουσε ότι ήταν άρρωστος, τότε παρέμεινε δύο ημέρες στον τόπο όπου βρισκόταν. 7  Έπειτα όμως, μετά από αυτό, είπε στους μαθητές: «Ας πάμε ξανά στην Ιουδαία». 8  Οι μαθητές τού είπαν: «Ραββί,  πρόσφατα οι Ιουδαίοι ζητούσαν να σε λιθοβολήσουν,  και εσύ πηγαίνεις ξανά εκεί;» 9  Ο Ιησούς απάντησε: «Δεν υπάρχει επί δώδεκα ώρες το φως της ημέρας; Αν κανείς περπατάει στο φως της ημέρας,  δεν σκοντάφτει, επειδή βλέπει το φως αυτού του κόσμου.  10  Αλλά αν κανείς περπατάει τη νύχτα,  σκοντάφτει, επειδή το φως δεν είναι σε αυτόν».  
 

31 Once more the Jews lifted up stones to stone him. 32 Jesus replied to them: “I displayed to YOU many fine works from the Father. For which of those works are YOU stoning me?” 33 The Jews answered him: “We are stoning you, not for a fine work, but for blasphemy, even because you, although being a man, make yourself a god.” 34 Jesus answered them: “Is it not written in your Law, ‘I said: “YOU are gods”’? 35 If he called ‘gods’ those against whom the word of God came, and yet the Scripture cannot be nullified, 36 do YOU say to me whom the Father sanctified and dispatched into the world, ‘You blaspheme,’ because I said, I am God’s Son? 37 If I am not doing the works of my Father, do not believe me. 38 But if I am doing them, even though YOU do not believe me, believe the works, in order that YOU may come to know and may continue knowing that the Father is in union with me and I am in union with the Father.” 39 Therefore they tried again to seize him; but he got out of their reach.

40 So he went off again across the Jordan to the place where John was baptizing at first, and he stayed there. 41 And many people came to him, and they began saying: “John, indeed, did not perform a single sign, but as many things as John said about this man were all true.” 42 And many put faith in him there.

11 Now there was a certain man sick, Lazarus of Bethany, of the village of Mary and of Martha her sister. 2 It was, in fact, the Mary that greased the Lord with perfumed oil and wiped his feet dry with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick. 3 Therefore his sisters dispatched word to him, saying: “Lord, see! the one for whom you have affection is sick.” 4 But when Jesus heard it he said: “This sickness is not with death as its object, but is for the glory of God, in order that the Son of God may be glorified through it.”

5 Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. 6 However, when he heard that he was sick, then he actually remained two days in the place where he was. 7 Then after this he said to the disciples: “Let us go into Judea again.” 8 The disciples said to him: “Rabbi, just lately the Judeans were seeking to stone you, and are you going there again?” 9 Jesus answered: “There are twelve hours of daylight, are there not? If anyone walks in daylight he does not bump against anything, because he sees the light of this world. 10 But if anyone walks in the night, he bumps against something, because the light is not in him.”
