19  Ο Ιησούς κατάλαβε  ότι ήθελαν να τον ρωτήσουν και τους είπε: «Ρωτάτε ο ένας τον άλλον σχετικά με αυτό, επειδή είπα: Λίγο ακόμη και δεν θα με βλέπετε, και πάλι, λίγο ακόμη και θα με δείτε; 20  Αληθινά, αληθινά σας λέω: Εσείς θα κλάψετε και θα θρηνήσετε, αλλά ο κόσμος θα χαρεί· εσείς θα λυπηθείτε,  αλλά η λύπη σας θα μετατραπεί σε χαρά.  21  Η γυναίκα όταν γεννάει έχει λύπη, επειδή έχει έρθει η ώρα της·  όταν, όμως, γεννήσει το παιδάκι, δεν θυμάται πια τη θλίψη λόγω της χαράς ότι γεννήθηκε ένας άνθρωπος στον κόσμο. 22  Και εσείς, λοιπόν, τώρα μεν έχετε λύπη· αλλά θα σας δω ξανά και η καρδιά σας θα χαρεί,  και τη χαρά σας κανείς δεν θα σας την αφαιρέσει. 23  Και εκείνη την ημέρα  δεν θα με ρωτήσετε τίποτα. Αληθινά, αληθινά σας λέω: Οτιδήποτε ζητήσετε από τον Πατέρα  θα σας το δώσει στο όνομά μου.  24  Μέχρι τώρα δεν έχετε ζητήσει τίποτα στο όνομά μου. Να ζητάτε και θα λάβετε, για να γίνει η χαρά σας πλήρης. 

   25  »Σας τα έχω πει αυτά με παραβολές.  Έρχεται η ώρα που δεν θα σας μιλήσω πια με παραβολές, αλλά με σαφήνεια θα σας μιλήσω σχετικά με τον Πατέρα. 26  Εκείνη την ημέρα θα ζητήσετε στο όνομά μου, και δεν σας λέω ότι θα παρακαλέσω τον Πατέρα για εσάς. 27  Διότι ο ίδιος ο Πατέρας νιώθει στοργή για εσάς, επειδή εσείς νιώσατε στοργή για εμένα  και πιστέψατε ότι εγώ εξήλθα ως εκπρόσωπος του Πατέρα.  28  Εξήλθα από τον Πατέρα και έχω έρθει στον κόσμο. Και πάλι, αφήνω τον κόσμο και πηγαίνω στον Πατέρα». 

   29  Οι μαθητές του είπαν: «Δες! Τώρα μιλάς με σαφήνεια και δεν χρησιμοποιείς καμιά παραβολή. 30  Τώρα γνωρίζουμε ότι γνωρίζεις τα πάντα  και δεν έχεις ανάγκη να σε ρωτάει κανείς.  Από αυτό πιστεύουμε ότι εξήλθες από τον Θεό».  31  Ο Ιησούς τούς απάντησε: «Πιστεύετε τώρα; 32  Δείτε! Έρχεται η ώρα, και μάλιστα έχει έρθει, που θα διασκορπιστείτε ο καθένας στο σπίτι του  και θα με αφήσετε μόνο· και όμως δεν είμαι μόνος, επειδή ο Πατέρας είναι μαζί μου.  33  Σας τα είπα αυτά ώστε μέσω εμού να έχετε ειρήνη.  Στον κόσμο έχετε θλίψη, αλλά πάρτε θάρρος! Εγώ έχω νικήσει τον κόσμο».

19 Jesus knew they were wanting to question him, so he said to them: “Are YOU inquiring among yourselves over this, because I said, In a little while YOU will not behold me, and, again, in a little while YOU will see me? 20 Most truly I say to YOU, YOU will weep and wail, but the world will rejoice; YOU will be grieved, but YOUR grief will be turned into joy. 21 A woman, when she is giving birth, has grief, because her hour has arrived; but when she has brought forth the young child, she remembers the tribulation no more because of the joy that a man has been born into the world. 22 YOU also, therefore, are now, indeed, having grief; but I shall see YOU again and YOUR hearts will rejoice, and YOUR joy no one will take from YOU. 23 And in that day YOU will ask me no question at all. Most truly I say to YOU, If YOU ask the Father for anything he will give it to YOU in my name. 24 Until this present time YOU have not asked a single thing in my name. Ask and YOU will receive, that YOUR joy may be made full.

25 “I have spoken these things to YOU in comparisons. The hour is coming when I will speak to YOU no more in comparisons, but I will report to YOU with plainness concerning the Father. 26 In that day YOU will ask in my name, and I do not say to YOU that I shall make request of the Father concerning YOU. 27 For the Father himself has affection for YOU, because YOU have had affection for me and have believed that I came out as the Father’s representative. 28 I came out from the Father and have come into the world. Further, I am leaving the world and am going my way to the Father.”

29 His disciples said: “See! Now you are speaking with plainness, and are uttering no comparison. 30 Now we know that you know all things and you do not need to have anyone question you. By this we believe that you came out from God.” 31 Jesus answered them: “Do YOU believe at present? 32 Look! The hour is coming, indeed, it has come, when YOU will be scattered each one to his own house and YOU will leave me alone; and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me. 33 I have said these things to YOU that by means of me YOU may have peace. In the world YOU are having tribulation, but take courage! I have conquered the world.”
